In the old days of the internet, making a website was challenging. Now, with the advent of user-friendly content management systems, it’s simple.

While there are all types of content management systems out there for novice web creators to use, Wix is arguably the best option. A drag-and-drop CMS, Wix is as simple to use as a few clicks of a mouse.

Interested in building a Wix website for your business? Not exactly sure of how to use Wix? We’re going to show you right now!

Choose a Plan

The first aspect of building a Wix website is to choose a plan. There are a number of plans available, each of which provides something different in terms of features, restrictions, and storage.

The cheapest plan is free of charge. However, it doesn’t allow you to choose your own URL and is void of most web-building features. If you’re building a business website, you’re advised not to use this plan.

Fortunately, you have seven paid plans that you can choose from, the cheapest being the Connect Domain plan at $5 a month, and the most expensive being the Business VIP plan at $35 a month. For business website purposes, you’re advised to choose the Business VIP plan, the Business Basic plan, or the Business Unlimited plan.

Select a Template

Once you’ve paid for your plan, you can start building your website. The first aspect of doing this is selecting your template. Wix offers a variety of web templates, each of which offers something a little different in terms of text placement, color, and layout.

There are two ways to find web templates on Wix: 1. Utilize Wix’s Wix Editor tool, or 2. Utilize Wix’s WIX ADI. Whereas the Editor Tool will simply allow you to choose from a list of over 500 templates, the ADI will allow you to input relevant information, and then provide a template to you.

Edit Your Chosen Template

Once you’ve chosen your template, you’ll be able to edit it, altering aspects such as text size and placement as well as color, images, and layout. These features are controlled by drag-and-drop boxes, making the editing process as simple as possible.

Editing Text

To edit text on your website, you simply click on it and utilize the editor box which pops up alongside it. This box will allow you to adjust text size, color, content, placement, and a variety of other text aspects.

Editing Images

Editing images in Wix works on the same basic principle as editing text in Wix. You simply click on existing images and utilize the editor box to change their size and placement. If you wish, you can replace images with either your own uploaded photos or with one of Wix’s many free photos.

Play With the Background

Generally, if you picked a template in Wix, it’s because you liked its background. However, it’s important to know that backgrounds can be changed.

If you wish to change the background on your Wix website, you must simply click on the “background” tab located on the left of your page. Once you’ve clicked this tab, an interface will pop up, allowing you to adjust a variety of different background aspects.

While you have the option to replace the existing background with one of Wix’s free images, you also have the option to replace it with your own images. If you wish, you can even add a video to your background.

Add On-page Apps

Now that you’ve adjusted your background, you have your very own, individual web page. The only problem is . . . it’s plain, boring, and lacking in functionality.

Know what it needs? A few apps!

Fortunately, you can add apps to Wix easily with the use of the Wix App Market. Simply access the market on the left side of your screen and choose the app that you want to add to your page.

There is no shortage of apps available in the App Market. You can find everything from online store apps to business tools to chat apps and more.

Whereas some of these apps are available free of charge, many of them come at a cost. Note, however, that these costs are generally one-time expenses.

Create Your Pages

You’ve just completed your home page. Now, it’s time to add your other pages. These include everything from the “About” page to the “Contact” page to the “Blog” and more.

To add new pages to your website, simply click on the “Menus & Pages” tab on the left side of your screen. This will open up a box with a plus sign button. Click this button, give your page a name, and click done.

Doing this will automatically place your new page on your website, allowing you to edit it as you see fit.

Add Your Content

Now that the general framework of your website has been established, you can start making it yours. This is done through the addition of content.

If you’re an adept writer, you should be able to create your own content. If you and your employees struggle to write, you might be better off utilizing the services of a professional copywriter.

He or she will optimize your content so as to attract as many potential customers as possible. He or she will also optimize your content for SEO purposes.

Publish Your Website

Once your personalized content has been added to your website, your website is ready to be viewed by the public. To make it visible to the public, you must first go to the settings tab in your dashboard. From there, select the privacy tab, then check the “Public” box.

After you’ve done this, your site will be published officially. There you go: you’ve just created a Wix website for your business.
