A “shout-out” to Heath for making a contribution today. I was beginning to think the donate button was broken. Please keep those donations rolling in. You guys are my only hope. We got some snow today but not like what was expected. I’m a little bummed out too because I was planing on there being enough snow that I could go home, shovel it into buckets, bring it inside, melt it, and use to to fill the back of the toilet. That way I could get out of this homeless shelter. Did I mention that I don’t like it here very much?
Three days till Christmas and I will be spending it here alone in my corner of the shelter. Most likely writing Pligg code. This is usually the only time of year that I regret not having a family to spend the holidays with. But in a way YOU are my family. Without you I don’t know what I would be doing. Probably married with 2.5 kids, working as an underpaid code monkey for some mismanaged local tech firm.
I spent a lot of time today testing a new module I had finished last night. It seems to be working flawlessly. It even worked remotely from a screen located 3 miles away. Distance isn’t really a factor, heck it would work all the way around the world theoretically. I will most likely release it in the Pligg Pro Shop sometime next week. Or if you wanted get it early, you could be one of the lucky 15 people who will get an early copy of all my new modules for free, for a year. Without letting the cat out of the bag, I can tell you that this module will revolutionize the sharing of Pligg submissions on mobile devices.
So I bet most of you are reading today’s post for a hint at Pligg 2 news. Well it’s still in development. I would say we’re about 97% completed with it. I can’t give a release yet but I would expect it sooner rather than later. There is much more to it than just the release of Pligg 2. I will leak out a little info here. The entire Pligg.com has been redesigned and rebuilt from the ground up. I’ve seen it and it looks amazing. I should have taken some screen shots but didn’t think of it at the time. Right now it’s all sitting on a dormant server out in San Fransisco. Did I mention that’s where Pligg’s main office is now? We’ve really grown a lot over the past 7 years. There will also be a new service Pligg LLC is going to be providing which will be an offshoot with a completely separate domain providing a new free service. Yep you guessed it. Anti-spam. Not only will it work for Pligg sites, but it will be available for other CMS’s as well. I’ve already seen the WordPress plugin. I can’t go into may technical details of how the service will work at the moment but I can tell you it’s something that hasn’t been done before. It will most likely be run on a cloud based service because it’s going to scale up fairly quickly and require a lot of resources. I’m sure we’ll start that off slowly and probably invite beta testers first to kick the tires, so to speak.
My goal would be to get these medical bills under control, and of course my health. Then maybe move out that way next fall. I’m still living back east due to this stupid medical garbage I have to go through.. I’ve been pricked, poked, scanned, sliced, and diced so many times I can’t even count them anymore. My ultimate dream would be to buy a nice big RV and travel the country. Just point it in the direction where the weather is nice. Of course I would also need a nationwide unlimited 4g connection, so I could still write code. I call it a dream because that’s exactly what it is. It’s not a goal. Because I can achieve any goal I set for myself. But being free like that to explore the country while still writing new code would be mind blowing.
I think I’ve rambled on long enough today. I hope you’ll stop back tomorrow and see how I’m doing. Living in a shelter I’ve learned to expect the unexpected. Anything can happen at any moment. This place gets pretty lively when all the drunks start rolling in. Fights break out. Trash cans spontaneously catch fire. You just never know.
Please don’t forget to make a contribution if you can. All forms of payment are accepted. Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, you can even do a bank transfer, or write a e-check. Any amount is welcome, and every little bit helps.
